What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energy based therapy that infuses positive energy into a person's energy fields to reduce stress and increase relaxation. It is considered a gentle and simple complimentary and alternative method of healing.

The Word Reiki

The word “Reiki” refers to both the spiritual and energetic healing technique and to the energy itself. It is a healing modality that is non-invasive and is used to improve health and well-being of the physical body, and bring emotional balance and peace to the mind and spirit.  With the integration of  psychotherapy and Reiki, there is increased experiential awareness of living and being in the present moment.


Reiki can be given as a standalone treatment, integrative approach, or to compliment Western medical treatment. Reiki is a Japanese word that refers to universal (rei) life force (ki) energies. It is believed to come from the highest, sacred source and therefore cannot cause harm or be done incorrectly.  


Reiki is a gentle and simple process. It can be taught to anyone and administered anywhere. Traditionally, energy flows from the Reiki practitioner to the recipient through touch and laying on of the hands.  Reiki can also be given by the Reiki practitioner distantly and with the practitioner’s eyes, breath or thoughts. It is can be a meditation, a spiritual prayer, or a body focusing technique.
